Assalamu'alaikum wr wb
Good day all
This time i'd like to write about a memorable comedy tv series aired from 1994 to 2004 in which one of my favorite comedy situations tv series through my entire adolescent times : Friends. Although it's not the only one, Friends had a big influence through my whole social life, even until now. I still love to watch them over and over again and i can even memorize all the dialogues in every single episode.
I've been seen tv series Friends from the very beginning, since day one, and never missed a single. It felt like grew up with them, even though they're all older than me. FYI, around 2001, i got money reward (Rp. 250.000,-) from Bintang Tabloid as a winner of their Friends quiz. The money might be not much, but this experience meant a lot to me at that particular moment.

Before i continue, first thing first you should be aware of : that i'm an Indonesian, therefore i'm not speaking English fluently. Bahasa Indonesia is my native language. So, literally you must understand if i sometimes missed some tenses or not put the right grammar on the place where it should be--Stuff like that, you know. Second, the purpose of this different kind of how the story is telling is just that i wanna know how big my chance about the audience is if i make a post in English rather than Indonesia language.
As i told in the beginning, today i want to write a story about tv series called Friends. As to many, this sitcom have reached it's popularity against any other sitcoms that aired almost in the same time and all the main casts have begun their acting carrier journey to reach their stardoms after they starred in Friends. This sitcom geniusly created by Marta Kauffman and David Crane and came out produced by Bright/Kauffman Crane Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television aired on NBC from September 22 1994 to May, 06 2004; that goes the same in Indonesia as well, aired on RCTI, with a week distance left behind.
The main casts are consisted with six incredibly notable talented young stars :
1. Jennifer Aniston as Rachel Greene,2. David Schwimmer as Ross Geller,
3. Courtney Cox as Monica Geller,
4. Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing,
5. Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe Buffay,
6. Matt LeBlanc as Joey Tribbiani.

All six stars were giving their best performances in six unique and different characters since the first episode through the tenth seasons and even though fans were desirably wanted them to continue their togetherness in Friends, it must come to an end in 2004. But if i re-think again about the whole situations that might be surrounded their final decisions (not to mention the contributions of all the producers, creative teams or so many certain cultures' movements), i consider this decision--no matter hurts-- is the right thing to do. I mean, they came in with style and they went out with style as well. Good for them. Don't you think it's cool? I can mention so many sitcoms ended up pathetically in shares, ratings and even the amount of fans experienced a significant descent just because they don't know when to stop. Or even, how to stop.
These following stories below are from my personal observes and thoughts mixed with informations from Wikipedia.org, IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes' sources i couldn't agree more :
1. Alongside Matt LeBlanc's Joey Tribbiani, David Schwimmer's Ross Geller and Matthew Perry's Chandler Bing created the most famous memorable trio actors in comedy roles than any other comedy actors ever gave. But in my very opinion, Matthew Perry was the prominent one in developing body languages and improvising character through the ten seasons. I think he's a brilliant actor.2. No Friend ever made more money doing the show than any others. They started out making $22,500 per episode and ended up making $1,000,000 per episode. All negotiations were done in unison. Kudrow said, "The six of us are far stronger than just one person."
3. When Matt LeBlanc auditioned for the role he only had $11 dollars to his name. When the cast got their paychecks, the first thing that Courtney Cox bought was a car. Matt LeBlanc bought a hot dinner.
4. Courtney Cox was originally asked to play Rachel, but she asked to play Monica instead after reading the parts.
5. In the last few months of shooting Friends, Courtney Cox became pregnant, but, seeing as Monica wasn't supposed to be able to have a baby, they covered up her pregnancy by making her wear baggy clothes while shooting the show so no one could tell.
6. Series creator David Crane wanted all six actors to be equally prominent and the series was lauded as being "the first true 'ensemble' show". The cast members made efforts to keep the ensemble format and not allow one member to dominate; they entered themselves in the same acting categories for awards, opted for collective salary negotiations, and asked to appear together on magazine cover photos in the first season. The cast members also became best friends off-screen, and guest star Tom Selleck reported sometimes feeling left out.
7. Monica says the first lines of the series and Chandler says the very last lines of the series.
8. The original idea for the show was going to focus on four characters with Phoebe and Chandler in supporting roles. In the early stages the creators toyed with the idea of Chandler being gay. They changed their mind when they met Matthew Perry. They did, however, insert many jokes about Chandler having gay mannerisms (not knowing about sports, loving show tunes, etc).
9. The cast remained good friends after the series' run, most notably Cox and Aniston, with Aniston being godmother to Cox and David Arquette's daughter, Coco. In the official farewell commemorative book 'Til The End, each separately acknowledged in interviews that the cast had become their family.
10. Matt LeBlanc showed up on the day of the audition with a large ugly cut on his nose resulting from a tumble and a land on the edge of a sharp toilet seat.
11. During the course of the series, all 6 of the friends change their jobs at least once. However, Chandler is the only one who never involuntarily left his job. Rachel, Monica, Phoebe & Joey were all fired at some point during the series and Ross was required to take a temporary (later permanent) sabbatical from the museum following his divorce from Emily.
12. The characters' full names are: - Rachel Karen Green - Phoebe Buffay (in "The One Where They All Turn Thirty" 7.14, she says that never knew her middle name since she had never seen her birth certificate and her twin sister, Ursula, had sold it to a Swedish runaway) - Joseph Francis Tribbiani Jr - Chandler Muriel Bing - Ross Eustace Geller - Monica E. Geller (Monica's middle name is never said).
13. Jennifer Aniston was a cast member of the CBS series Muddling Through (1994) when she was cast in "Friends". NBC executives did not want Aniston because if "Muddling Through" was picked up for a second season, the "Friends" episodes with Aniston would have to be refilmed at a high cost to the network. But NBC vice president Warren Lilttlefield wanted to work with Aniston so much that he offered to pay for the refilmed episodes himself. "Muddling Through" was canceled and Aniston was free to star in "Friends".
14. The main characters from the show are named after All My Children (1970) characters. Ross for Ross Chandler, Joey for Joey Martin, Chandler for the Chandler family, Monica for Monique/Daisy Cortland, Rachel Greene for Janet Green, and Phoebe for Phoebe Tyler Wallingford.
15. In the beginning, i got focused only to Courtney Cox's and Jennifer Aniston's characters, then i had to add Lisa Kudrow's character as the brilliant female character among all three, but recently i can see Jennifer Aniston's potential acting talent, which by the way explain why she's the most wanted actress from the "three ladies of Friends" to appear in so many drama movies in Hollywood.
16. On the set, Matt LeBlanc was known as "LeBlanc" by all the cast and crew, and Matthew Perry was known as "Matthew" or "Matt". This was started by the crew to avoid confusion. Additionally, David Schwimmer was referred to as "Schwim" among the crew.
17. Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe) is the oldest out of all six, being born in 1963, then Courtney Cox (Monica) born in 1964, David Schwimmer (Ross) born in 1966, Matt LeBlanc (Joey) born in 1967, Jennifer Aniston (Rachel) born in January 1969, and Matthew Perry (Chandler) being the youngest, born in August 1969.
18. Matt LeBlanc who plays Joey in Friends, admitted in the exit interview for the book 'Friends...Til' the End', that he had a crush on Jennifer Aniston who plays Rachel. He said "Now I had a little crush on Jen in the very beginning, but I think the whole world did too, so what are you going to do?"
#Ok, guys. Gotta go now. My little girl's on her way home now from school, i must prepare her brunch and gift for her birthday friend this afternoon. I'll continue tonight.#~14.55 wita.
~19.50 wita. Continue the post...
19. Lisa Kudrow based her hippie character Phoebe on her co-starJennifer Aniston - because of the actress' interest in "spiritual" subjects.
20. Courtney Cox is the only regular cast member to not receive an Emmy nomination for their work on the show.
21. Matt LeBlanc's character 'Joey Tribbiani' plays Dr. Drake Ramoray in a fictional version of the NBC soap opera Days of Our Lives (1965). In real life, Jennifer Aniston's father, John Aniston, plays 'Victor Kiriakis' on the real Days of Our Lives.
22. Of all the titles, the Friend's names appear individually as so: Rachel (21 times), Ross (19 times), Joey (13 times), Phoebe (10 times), Chandler (9 times), and Monica (7 times). Also, Ross and Rachel appears 4 times, Joey and Rachel appears 3 times, Monica and Chandler 2 times, and Ross and Monica appears once in the episode titles.
23. Each of the main six stars has hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live (1975) apart from Matt LeBlanc.
24. Out of the six friends, Chandler is the only one to not have any siblings. Rachel has two sisters, Monica and Ross are brother and sister, Phoebe has a twin and a half-brother, and Joey has seven sisters.
25. First choice for Rachel was Tea Leoni.
26. Jennifer Aniston agreed to return for the series' 2003-04 season, which was the series' 10th and final season, only if production on the show would be finished by January, 2004, so she could focus on her film career.
27. Courtney Cox is actually older than David Schwimmer, though he plays her older brother on this show.
28. Phoebe's boyfriend David is a scientist who moves to Minsk. Lisa Kudrow's relatives originate from this part of Belarus. According to Lisa Kudrow's Wikipedia page, she discovered that her ancestors immigrated from a village in Minsk.
29. Matt LeBlanc admitted to dyeing his hair through out the show.
30. Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc both guest-starred on the sitcom Just The Ten of Us (1988), Perry in the second season and LeBlanc in the third season, they both dated sister Wendy Lubbock, played by Brooke Theiss. Additionally, Perry and Theiss starred together in a short-lived sit-com of their own in 1993 entitled Home Free (1993).
31. Phoebe's alias name is "Regina Phalange." Phalanges are the small bones that make up the fingers and toes.
32. Friends received positive reviews throughout its run, becoming one of the most popular sitcoms of all time. The series was nominated for 62 Primetime Emmy Awards, winning the Outstanding Comedy Series award in 2002 for its eighth season. The show ranked no. 21 on TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time and no. 7 on Empire Magazine's The 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time. In 1997, the episode "The One With The Prom Video" was ranked no. 100 on TV Guides 100 Greatest Episode of All Time. In 2013, Friends ranked no. 24 on the Writers Guild of America's 101 Best Written TV Series of All Time and no. 28 on TV Guide's 60 Best TV Series of All Time.
Despite all the facts about our multi differences with them from country, religion, culture, ideology and anything! (you name it), still, we can always take lessons from everything we see and hear in life, include this Friends tv series. I always try to make myself to get used to see everything in a positive point of views without losing my conscious of tauhid. As Mr. Ary Ginandjar Agustian (The Master of Indonesia's ESQ 165)'s famous quote for the alumnis of ESQ 165 : "Ambil yang baik, buang yang buruk, lalu ciptakan sesuatu yang baru darinya."/"Take the good thing, throw the bad one then create something new with it."
Well, I think these would be all for now. Of course i could always come back adding some new informations if i ever find another. Thanks for reading and have a nice day.
Wassalam.
